Last dive season I got cavern certified. One very important lesson in that class was reinforcement of a lesson from Deep diving class, the importance of lights. I had issues. Specifically, dissatisfaction with my primary and back up dive lights as well as with my dive beacon light.Let’s talk beacon lights – the light most used on the cylinder & yoke/din primary regulator connection for night dives. In my deep class I invested, at the recommendation of my LDS in a not so inexpensive 3 light kit with a HUGE “primary” that reminded me of a 12-volt camping light, a bulky back up and a puny beacon light. After 3 years of intensive diving, the only one still in my kit was the beacon light. I was in hunt of a replacement for it as it only offered a weak white light with 1 mode, on or off. As a dive master, I am often asked to lead night dives, sometimes with people who are not night dive certified. Again, after months of research, I found a solution, the OrcaTorch SD03 Dive Beacon as it offered solutions to SO many issues that I had with my basic beacon.First 4 light colors; red, blue, white, and green. Additionally, any of the colors can also strobe on and off! This made it PERFECT for a group night dive. Everyone in my group was kitted with the SD03 and we set them all to the same color – blue. As the dive leader, I set my blue light to strobe. Strobe is a strong term here. It gently glows on and off, it’s not a manic flashing back and forth. This enabled my dive group to stay together AND follow me as intended. It’s compact – shorter than my index finger. Light weight – no noticeable impact on the weight of a dive kit. Long lasting -literature claims of 150 hours on a single AA battery. It’s also the perfect brightness, easy to spot if you’re staying buddy close but not so bright as to disrupt vision at night. I highly recommend this light to anyone interested in night diving or wanting a great visual aid for dive buddy recognition.

I really like this tank light. It is well made and relatively inexpensive. I think it will last for a long time. Twist mechanism to activate the light and change colors is simple and allows you to turn it on without waiting to get it submerged. I like seeing what color I have compared to my buddies, especially in a larger group. Multiple colors is also a bonus. I am very happy with my purchase. I also have a dove light from the same brand and it is also well made and performing great.

An amazingly good value. This beacon is very ruggedly built and I’m sure will stand up to years of use. It is neutrally buoyant and imho is just the right brightness for a good tank light. Not so bright that it lights up the sea, but bright enough to be clearly visible by your diving buddy. Insert the battery, screw on the double o-ring sealed cover and it lights up. Untwist the cover a quarter turn, then reclose and the light changes: The body glows red, flashes red, glows green, flashes green, glows blue, flashes blue, turns into a solid white flashlight (end illumination), flashes white, then repeats the sequence. It could be used as a back-up dive light and could be attached to a BCD D-ring for easy access. It is well sealed and there was no sign of leakage even when I played with the device changing colors underwater.I originally bought two of these (one for me and one for my diving buddy). This, my third beacon, was bought to leave on shore so I have an easy way to see my entry/exit point at night. It’s easy to select the desired color (I’m fond of the flashing green beacon but if you see another group using that marker its a very quick switch). I like using standard AA batteries since I use it less often than my standard dive lights (night dives only) but any AA-sized rechargeable could be used.I’m very pleased with my purchase. I can’t think of any improvements I could suggest for this beacon.

The media could not be loaded. Β The thing I like most about this light is the multiple colors it offers to choose from. That way as a buddy group or groups colors can be assigned to spot who is where. Nice to have a group assigned a color so you can see that everyone is with there group or if looking for a particular friend they will be easier to find. Want to show Luke the cool seahorse you found just look for the blue light instead of the red or green. The white light that can also be turned on is actually pretty powerful for its size. Just a couple of twists and you can use it as a backup if something happens to your primary light. The colors also being able to flash makes it to where you can use it for a marker light that can be seen from far away. I had a video of it going off down in a cave where I placed it. I could see it going off all the way from the entrance over 50ft away.I’ll redo that video the next time I go back since it really shows just how far away the light can be seen. All in all definitely the best dive beacon I have seen. I will be grabbing more for my students night courses and for the rest of my folks when we go out for fun.

The light is small and natural buoyancy. Provide a good source of light to put on the neck of your tank. Itβs easy to be seen by your buddy. Battery has a good life.

Fantastic compact dive beacon that has the capability to be used as a small light in a pinch. The colors are very bright and vivid and it’s easy to change between different colors (just twist the cap where the flashlight end screws on). Very compact to be used as a beacon when required, without getting in the way. I was really surprised at how bright it was considering the small size.

I got this to use as a tank marker light and a back up light. Awesome market light as it has three colors you can use so you and your buddy can use different colors in the fly to stand out from the crowd. If you should happen to have a light fail this also has a standard flash light. I would not recommend as a primary, but it is great to get to the surface in case of a failure. This will also be a hard light to have fail as simple as it is. Just 1 AA and two o rings and you are good to get in the water. If you are looking for a marker light or a good secondary this is the one I would recommend.
