I purchased this 2 years ago, and it will save me a lot of money when I do not have to replace the expired flares like I use to then have to dispose of them at the fire house, or a coast guard aux. It was on the average about 70-80 every 3 years it pays for itself in no time. And it is safe when the grandkids touch it. It may cost some money but in the long run it is worth the safety and knowledge knowing it works great and is safe if the kids have to use it.

Pros- CG certified and won’t expire in 3 years like flares- Well sealed with o-rings – floats- Flasher runs for hours vs. a few minutes for flaresCons- I’m not confident this will attract attention in a distress situation. There can be other flashing white lights in coastal areas. A flare is unmistakable.- Unlike a flare it’s only good at night. A distress flag is included for day but that’s not as obvious as a flare either.

I never did like having flares on board. This is somewhat costly, however, you won’t have to replace it as it does not run out the end of a “good until” date. So in the long run it’s a good investment and save $ over time.

Yes, this is USCG approved for a signaling device. It will save all kinds of $$$ since you no longer have to buy flares every 3-4 years. I still keep [expired] flares on my boat as a backup.

Feels very cheap and is expensive for the material used, but is coast guard approved, and better than a ticket for expired flares.

No more flares! Need I say more? Buy this! You will not regret it!

There’s this one place I go while shrimping where I am required to have flares on the boat. $48 for flares every 30 months vs $89 for a much longer lasting solution. Just keep the batteries fresh.
