Firstly I must say that the folks, (Hammerhead) that provide Amazon with this product are GREAT; for the following reason. I have a couple Gear Keepers that I have had for a number of years and they are super, , , HOWEVER when I received my last one for Amazon and opened it, it wasn’t assembled. Hummmm, although all the other gear keepers that I have purchased were from a local retailer I thought (wrongfully so) that maybe is the way they come from Amazon. Well the longer I looked at my new gear keeper the more I realized that I did not have the requisite tools or skill set to assemble it. I was getting ready to give Amazon a call or e-mail but instead I called the number for Hammerhead, (805 658-9922), it took only a minuet or two and I was talking to Mike with the technical department. I described the state the gear keeper was in and he advised that NO, I shouldn’t try to assemble it. To further clarify the issue Mike asked if I could take a picture and e-mail it along, which I did. It took only about a half hour and Mike was calling me, very apologetic for the problem and asked for my address and stated he would send a new, (assembled gear keeper) along which he did and I received same in a few days. I would again reiterate all the products I have received from Hammerhead are super and this was just one of those little bumps in the road of life.

I bought this to keep my light secondary dive computer streamlined.Pros: The quick release was easy to use and made it easy to bring my secondary dive computer back to my room after the dives. I always left the Gear Keeper on the BCD. Most of my dives were boat dives, so I did a lot of jumps and it never came off. It was easy to pull the secondary computer, read and release, keeping it streamlined. You can buy several types of quick release connectors and just leave them attached to each equipment. My flashlight, secondary dive computer and underwater camera case all have their own quick connector, which makes it easy to use the retractors.Cons: I was expecting it to last more than 120 dives, but I don’t have another product to compare. The cable was made of some sort of steel and it rusted on several places, but it did not compromise its strength. I tried to use WD-40 to make it more smooth, but it broke after I fully extended it 4x. R.I.P. It did not work well with my big flashlight, it was too heavy for it to retract.Other thoughts: I already ordered the replacement, but this time I bought the one that is a little bit stronger, the RT4-5913.

I purchased this to hold my Pinpointer while metal detecting. The pointer cost quite a bit and is a little heavy I wanted a retractable cable so I wouldn’t loose it and was strong enough to hold it in place without the cable coming out because of the weight. This is perfect in that it holds the pointer firmly in place and as an added bonus I can disconnect the pointer from the retractor with a simple heavy duty plastic clip to change the battery when needed without having to remove the entire unit from my belt. This works perfectly and was exactly what I wanted.

I’m a very hard grader and almost NEVER give any product 5 stars (5 being perfect, and what is?). But this gizmo comes close enough.I bought a couple of these to hold my GoPro and flashlight while scuba diving. They worked very well, exceeding expectations, in Cozumel during a week of diving. No real cons. The casing that holds the wound line and spring could be a little smaller, but maybe not. It never proved to be a problem at all.Pros:โข I’d guess that the line case needs to be as large as it is in order to hold the line and spring mechanism (which is my way of saying it’s really fine, considering the quality of the spring and line). It measures 4cm W x 5 cm H. Note this is just the boxy part where the line spools into; the rest of the unit is largerโsee photoโข The spring that winds the line is excellentโjust strong enough to safely retract and hold what’s clipped to it, but not so tight that it prevents easy extension.โข Overall build quality is excellentโข Quick release at line end is quite robustโข Swivel clip at other end is also robust and large enough to easily clip/unclip to BCD D-rings (or a belt loop.โข Reeled line extends to 21.5″ โ plenty long to hold a camera or flashlight at arm’s lengthโข Line is about 2mm thick and made of a synthetic material that is very strongโข Line spool case is vented and apparently dries easilyโit did not come back home with any funky “tropical mildew” smell, to my pleasant surprise (I can’t say that about much of my other gear, which never fully dried out overnight)Highly recommended.

Needed a retractable cable system for my dive light as I almost dropped it last time. I love it, perfect tension not too much not too little. Holds well on my BCD clip, even got my wife one as she doesn’t care for the hand mount she had. Very happy so far hoping for many move lighted dives without not being able to access my light.

Itโs seems very durable however, the cable is too short and the retraction thingโฆ itโs so fast and powerfulโฆI have to keep it extended with my both hands
