Dakine Tailgate Surf Pad helps protect surfboards while you’re driving to and from your spot. This updated 28-inch pad is now wider, to accommodate even the burliest tailgate, and lengthened board straps now accommodate the largest of SUP’s, or up to two noseriders stacked on top of each other. The pad features contoured raised foam with padded flaps designed to drape over the tailgate for added protection. Adjustable straps easily secure the pad to the tailgate and keep it in place, while the top cam strap keeps your board centered on the foam. Meanwhile, a soft fleece backing is watching out for your rig’s paint job.

Works as I need it to transport my 9′ longboard in the bed of my truck for drives to the coast for surf sessions. Nice thick foam pad, protects my tailgate and the board, main strap across is nice and holds strong with the carabiner, especially when I’m flying on the freeway. Only difficulty was tightening the other straps around the tailgate. Mine came tangled and I don’t have enough upper body strength to tighten them myself so I need help. They do occasionally loosen and need to be tightened again but overall strong enough and the pad wouldn’t come off. Sometimes when I’m handling the board and pulling it out, the pad will slip down, but that’s probably the lack of tightness of the straps and not a big deal.

This tailgate pad holds down 2 longboards in my pickup bed no problem. I have also used it to secure fishing poles and light lumber as well. Works great and install is simple.

Works great to protect the tailgate. Fits jeep gladiator and Ford F-250.

Use this on my F150 tailgate for my SUPs. Have used it for quick trips and long ones (6 hours+) on local streets and on highway. I would not rely on this strap alone on highway trips, and I use several, but it keeps the boards padded. Plastic buckles that attach pad to the tailgate have done ok to date but it would be nice if they were built a bit stronger, such as a heavier gauge or metal but I have gotten a lot of use out of it and it’s held up so far. Definitely recommend this product as it is a great value.

I really want to love this item. The reality after a full season’s use, it doesn’t work with my 10ft paddle board and little 5 foot truck bed (Tacoma). It’s not the fault of the tailgate pad, so much as physics.. I still need to use a ratchet strap or the likes of it to tie it down inside the truck bed. Otherwise, it becomes a teeter totter on the tailgate. The second the wind picks up, I’m in trouble.

I use this to transport by 10 foot 6 inch paddle board in by Ford Ranger with a 5 foot 1 inch bed. It secures the board without damaging the board or tail gate. I’ve driven at highway speeds and the board doesn’t move at all.
