Bought this paddle with high expectations. My initial thoughts were not great. While paddling I immediately noticed the lack of force to move forward. This was greatly mis-judged. Usually I have to paddle hard to keep up with my lean mean female partner. After my initial misjudgment if this paddle I realized I was having to slow down so she could keep up. That’s when it clicked. The lack of effort to propel forward was not that I wasn’t going fast but rather not having to work so hard to go even faster. Very pleased overall with one exception. It really won’t matter to most but if your paddle slides sideways across your boat it will scuff it up. The raised wrap edges are Iike a file. They didn’t bother my hands at all though.

I’m mainly a recreational paddler, usually traveling 4-7 miles on an average outing. My wife always snags our other light-weight paddle, so I’ve used our cheap paddles for the last 15 years. I picked this up when she got a light weight yak that forced me to work to keep up with her. The difference was immediate – light, fast and nearly effortless. I had no idea how much energy I had been putting into holding and moving my heavy old paddles. 10-12 ounces over 2.5-4 hours adds up on my 65-year old shoulders – I shouldn’t have waited to invest in this well-built, sturdy, light replacement paddle. I also love the easy angle adjustment feature on this paddle. Worth every penny.

I bought this paddle on a whim. I bulked at the price at first, but figured l could return it if l didn’t like it. Now that l have used it, the only way you could take this paddle away from me is to pry it out of my cold dead hands. I have been kayaking for 20 plus years, and l kayak a lot, like at least every week a lot, so when l tried this paddle l was instanly in love with it. It is light weight AND sturdy, which is hard to find in a paddle. Do not let the price tag scare you! This paddle is worth it.

I am 5-11” paddling an Eddyline Sandpiper 130 which has a 28” beam. The Manta Ray Carbon 240 cm works great with this kayak. I paddle very close to this shorter kayak which minimizes the bow serpentining with each stroke. The paddle has excellent grip in the water. After paddling two hours, the paddle weight was of no concern. The small ringlets on the paddle shaft actually helped keep my grip placed. Love this paddle!

On my first paddle with the manta ray 240cm I noticed that the connector was loose. The punch button locking pins had slipped up the shaft and was not functional any longer. The two pieces of the paddle at that point were loose and could pull apart with slight effort or if I was to use the paddle to pull me closer to the dock or such. After returning home I looked at the connector and found that the catch piece that holds the two shafts together was glued together with what appears to be a pine tar like substance. It is gummy and holds the piece in against gravity but not strong enough for such an important connection! Not sure if it was just a bad batch of glue or if that is all they can use for carbon fiber shafts so that it doesn’t deteriorate the resins??Other than that important flaw in the products durability and functionality, the posi-lock works well. I am not sure at this point if I will keep it or return for a better connection design? Will depend on the makers response to the issue…….

Well designed paddle and made in USA by a company utilizing tons of research to perfect the paddle. Lightweight and responsive. The oval shaft design makes it super comfortable and efficient.

Simply put, just as good or better than other brand Carbon paddles for a lot better price. When I kayak I usually paddle from 2 to 4 hours and these paddles never seem heavy, are sturdy and a pleasure to use.
