The media could not be loaded. I bought this to protect an expensive electronic instrument (Fluke 87-V DMM), and it just fits with the probes included. The hinge uses stainless pins for extra strength; and the lid, body of the case, and latch mechanism all appear to be super tough polycarbonate, with a rubber liner the size of the body of the case to cushion the contents and act as a seal for the lid. There’s also a nice Pelican innovation of a pressure equalization valve right below the latch to allow air from heat expansion to escape if the case gets warmed up, but still keep the contents sealed. It also comes with a carabiner attached to one end to make it easy to secure to something else to prevent loss.A quick check on Pelican’s site finds that this case is water RESISTANT, not waterproof, explaining that it will keep water out down to one meter deep for up to thirty minutes. What that translates to is that this wouldn’t work for scuba diving, but it would be perfect to protect cell phones and other fragile items while boating and in rain.My own experience with Pelican’s smaller version of this case, the Micro 1020, bears this out, since I took it with me canoeing over a decade ago to protect my cell phone, and the case wound up in the water, yet protected it perfectly, and the case stayed afloat with my phone and wallet inside. In fact, it’s a very good thing I took it with me because I had to call 911 for a woman who had been knocked unconscious that day, and the phone was still bone dry, even though I needed to retrieve the Pelican case holding it from the water earlier. It’s also nice how easy it is to open and close this case, which can be done easily with one hand.I also should mention that this case floats, even when I have my somewhat heavy (over 22 oz.) Fluke 87-V DMM in it.The most important thing for the prospective buyer to know is what are the internal dimensions, which are not listed here on Amazon, so here they are, straight from Pelican’s site: 8.25″ x 4.25″ x 2.25″

This case is made of nice sturdy materials and comes in a variety of optional vivid colors. Here are a few observations that may assist others that don’t appear to be addressed in the description. The case’s latch located along the length of the case is made of a clear acrylic type plastic. It is sturdy but this could crack as the material ages, or if the case is being used in a rough manner or environment. If the latch breaks, the case would no longer close properly, and it doesn’t appear to be something you can replace to repair this feature. It seems to be a potential weakness in the design one should consider based on the intended use.The interior of the lid comes with a glued-in piece of black foam with the solid color case models. (Presumably the clear case cover option would not have this.) The entire foam sheet is adhesive backed and cannot easily be removed. Attempting to remove the foam lining would probably rip the material and leave unwanted material on the case lid. While it’s there for protecting your goods within, there may be some users who would prefer an option to adhere this piece, or not, themselves. A clean unlined case may be a desirable option for some owners. The bottom half of the case comes with a removable interior black rubber liner. It is very easy to remove, and doing so should allow users the option for using the case without the liner if greater interior storage space is needed, or if the rubber material interferes with ones use of the case. However, by removing the rubber liner, you can no longer close the case at all. The rubber liner extends to the lip of the case and acts as a seal for water resistance. The gap at the edge of the case means the latch cannot engage. This is very unfortunate and was not foreseen when purchased, so is worth noting.Consider that the rubber liner may need to be removed for cleaning (that’s do-able), replacement due to aged/worn materials, or if any damage to the edge/seal requires a new liner to maintain the water resistance and continued use of the case. Liner replacements are available for these cases, however, should new liners not be available, then these cases will become mostly obsolete.Depending on what one stores inside the case, the rubber material may not be a good material in proximity to other materials. Various plastics and rubber “dry-rot” or “gas-off” over time. This would therefore not be a good long term archival storage system if you may be concerned with the condition of certain materials being stored safely in the case. Things left in a case for extended periods and in environments of changing humidity may encounter issues with long term storage use and from a lack of airflow within the case. This is certainly an impressive product, and these are just some observations others may wish to consider.

For $30 why would you not have one of these things?Instantly make your wallet, keys, phone, or any other small portable object virtually indestructible by placing it in this case. It has a built-in pressure regulator just like the big boys, and even a nice silicon shock-absorbing skin to keep things from rattling or bouncing around. I’ve had one of these cases for years, taking it on rafting trips and up mountains, and I just bought a few more for various other purposes. It’s a great case at a great price.

I love these cases for electronics, don’t get me wrong. This review has almost entirely to do with the advertised color of the red case in particular. I ordered this in summer of 2022.Imagine the crimson/oxblood color, with the clear plastic enclosure as pictured. I guess this is Pelican’s new “red” color, much darker and richer than the red case pictured. Please update the photo or product description.

I use my Pelican case on my fishing kayak to keep my cell phone and keys dry. I’ve been using these cases for over 10 years and they work as advertised. I kayak in a large river mostly with lots of rough water and rocks. I get tossed around pretty good and have to deal with a lot of water. The Pelican case holds up and keeps my phone and keys secure and dry. The case has a rope attached that I can hook on to my kayak to make sure it stays put.

This is great for kayaking but I would get some better carabiner than the one that comes with it.
